On August 15, 2016 the Town of Scottsville became the first official Bee City USA in the Commonwealth of Virginia. In so doing, we made the commitment to provide and promote healthy, sustainable habitats for bees and other pollinators.

This action also showed that we supported the Scottsville Supply Company and their goals to assist the town with this project and bringing pollination issues to the forefront. For more information on our commitment, you may read our resolution by clicking here.

The Scottsville Center for Arts and Nature serves as the non-profit facilitator for Bee City USA and the Town.  They have dedicated space on their Hardware Street property for an apiary which will be used by Heather Shertzer as an outdoor classroom.

Hardware Street location where the future “Bee Apiary” or “Outdoor Classroom” will be.

On June 24, 2017, the Town held the First Annual Pollinator Festival. We invited several organizations to participate with us, and conveniently placed all at the Farmers’ Market for optimal attendance.
