2010 Vehicle Decals
Scottsville residents with motor vehicles are required to pay an annual vehicle license tax and display a window decal as evidence of payment. The annual license tax is $30 for cars and trucks, $15 for motorcycles, $25 for trailers over 1,500 pounds, and $5 for trailers under 1,500 pounds. Decals may be obtained at the Town Office or at BB&T, and must be displayed on vehicles by January 31. New residents must pay the vehicle license tax (prorated by half after July 1) and display vehicle decals within 30 days of moving to town. Town residents pay the Scottsville vehicle license tax in lieu of the Albemarle or Fluvanna vehicle license tax, while personal property tax revenues are paid to the respective county.
The town plans to participate in the DMV registration stop program this year. Delinquent taxpayers will be unable to renew vehicle registrations until the vehicle license tax is paid to the town. The stops are associated with a vehicle owner, and not a particular vehicle, so vehicle owners whose license tax is delinquent for any vehicle will find all the vehicles registered in their ownership to be impacted by this action. Stops will be removed upon payment in full of the delinquent taxes and a DMV administrative fee of $20. (12/28/09)
